Mahomes went 23-for-36 with 352 passing yards and four touchdowns with two interceptions against the Patriots on Sunday. Mahomes struggled in the first half, but came alive in the second half. He's thrown for over 300 yards in every game this season, but Week 1. Mahomes will remain an elite QB1 next week against the Bengals.
4 days ago: Patrick Mahomes Has Easier Week 6 Matchup
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes failed to throw a touchdown for the first time this season during the Week 5 victory over Jacksonville. Mahomes was picked off twice, but still finished the game with over 300 passing yards. He heads into a matchup with the Patriots that have allowed 11 passing touchdowns this season. Mahomes should be back to his normal pace against the Pats.
8 days ago: Patrick Mahomes Struggles For First Time This Season
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had his worst game of the season against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Mahomes went 22-for-38 for 313 yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions in the 30-14 victory over the Jags. However, Mahomes did rushed four times for 13 yards and one touchdown. Fantasy owners did not get what they wanted from Mahomes, but he was still able to throw for over 300 yards for the fourth consecutive week. Mahomes should remain a solid QB1 option against the Patriots next week.
11 days ago: Patrick Mahomes Faces Toughest Challenge Yet
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will face his toughest challenge yet in the Week 5 game versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags defense has only allowed three touchdowns through the air this season, according to Yahoo. Mahomes has been unstoppable through the first four weeks. He's thrown 14 touchdowns without a single interception all season. Fantasy owners have to trust him, but Mahomes might only be a borderline QB1 against the elite Jaguars secondary.
13 days ago: Patrick Mahomes Throws for Over 300 Yards Again
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes played well on Monday despite facing a fairly strong Denver defense. Mahomes went 28-for-45 with 304 passing yards and one touchdown in the victory over the Broncos on Monday. This was the third game in a row that Mahomes has thrown over 300 yards. However, he only threw one touchdown and was able to throw at least three per game in his first three contests. Mahomes was still very effective despite being slowed down a bit. He'll face his toughest challenge yet against the Jaguars in Week 5.
17 days ago: Patrick Mahomes Should Be Excellent Option in Week 4
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes set a new NFL record with 13 touchdowns through his first three games. Mahomes has been truly been excellent and basically unstoppable this season. There should be no reason that Mahomes slows down in Week 4 against a Broncos team that has struggled. Mahomes owners should be in for another good week.
21 days ago: Patrick Mahomes Throws Three Touchdowns in Week 3
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was tremendous once again in the 38-27 victory over the 49ers in Week 3. Mahomes went 24-for-38 with 314 yards and three touchdowns without any interceptions in the victory over San Francisco. Mahomes now has 13 touchdowns without a single interception through the first three weeks of the season. Mahomes has been elite this season and it's not looking like he is going to slow down anytime soon. He should be in for another solid performance against the Broncos in Week 4.
25 days ago: Patrick Mahomes an Excellent Option for Week 3
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been unstoppable through the first two weeks of the regular season. Mahomes has thrown 10 touchdowns without a single interception through two weeks. He'll face off against a 49ers defense that has allowed almost 300 passing yards per game. Mahomes should be one of the best fantasy quarterbacks this week.
1 month ago: Patrick Mahomes Destroys Chargers Defense in Week 1
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was hyped up all offseason and maybe that was for a good reason. Mahomes was 15-for-27 with 256 passing yards and four touchdowns in the 38-28 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. The Chargers pass defense was supposed to be fairly strong, but they couldn't handle Mahomes in Week 1. This was his second NFL start and he went out there looking like a veteran quarterback. The biggest issue in camp was interceptions and Mahomes did not throw a single pick against the Chargers on Sunday. He's now put himself in the QB1 discussion.
1 month ago: Patrick Mahomes Has Tough Challenge In Week 1
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has a tough challenge ahead of him against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1. The 2017 first-round pick takes over for Alex Smith as the starting quarterback in KC. He'll face off against the Chargers in L.A. so not exactly an easy task for Mahomes. The Chargers defense ranked top five against the pass last year. Fantasy owners should not expect Mahomes to live up to the hype right away. He should be owned in almost all leagues, but it's difficult to count on him as a QB1 for Week 1.
2 months ago: Patrick Mahomes Plays Well in Saturday's Loss
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes played well in Saturday's preseason loss to the Chicago Bears. Mahomes was 18-for-24 with 196 yards and one touchdown on Saturday. The reports out of Chiefs camp were that Mahomes has struggled with interceptions, but he seemed fine against Chicago. Mahomes did not throw any interceptions in the loss to the Bears, so hopefully this "issue" has been corrected. He'll get one more chance to iron out some things before the regular season.
2 months ago: Patrick Mahomes Plays Well on Friday
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes started off slow in Friday's preseason game against the Falcons, but finished with a bang. Mahomes completed eight of twelve passes for 138 yards and one touchdown with one interception on Friday. The word from Chiefs camp is Mahomes has been struggling with interceptions and he threw one right into double coverage against Atlanta. He rebounded on the next series throwing a 69-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill. Mahomes has plenty of gunslinger upside, but his lack of experience does show.
2 months ago: Andy Reid Not Worried About Patrick Mahomes
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid isn't worried about quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who has thrown eight interceptions in seven training camp practices. "I told you at the beginning of camp I don't care about all that stuff,'' Reid said. "I want him to test the offense . . . If you don't have the intestinal fortitude to go test it you're going to be one of those quarterbacks who checks it down every time." That's exactly why the Chiefs moved on from Alex Smith. Mahomes will have his fair share of interceptions in 2018 in his first year as a full-time starter, but he also has a huge arm, can make plays with his legs and will carry more upside than Smith ever did for fantasy owners. The Chiefs are clearly ready to open things up and stretch the field.
4 months ago: Tamba Hali Praises Patrick Mahomes
Free-agent linebacker Tamba Hali, who watched Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes practice in 2017, was very impressed with the young signal caller. "In practice I'd watch him just look guys off. I mean, Eric Berry, you look him off and complete the ball. He did it to Marcus Peters a lot. So, people don't know what's coming. I don't want to hype him, but I compare him to Brett Favre. He runs around the field and he throws the ball and he's just having fun," Tali said. The Chiefs are expecting a lot out of Mahomes in just his second season, but he has plenty of weapons around him to help him succeed. Mahomes is a QB2 with elite upside.
4 months ago: Patrick Mahomes Impresses With Blitz Pickups
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said he was impressed with how quarterback Patrick Mahomes handled himself when facing complicated blitz pickups during offseason workouts. "We wanted to come in and make sure we challenged him," Reid explained of Mahomes. "I thought he handled that very well. One of the big things for young kids is just the blitz game, so we put a big emphasis on that and tried to give him a lot of different looks there." Mahomes has great athleticism and a very strong arm with plenty of offensive talent around him. It's why they felt it was OK to let Alex Smith go. Mahomes has big-time upside but is still raw. He's an intriguing QB2 with QB1 upside based on matchups.
9 months ago: Patrick Mahomes Boosted By Progress In Rookie Season
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes impressed when he played and Sports Illustrated reports the progress of Mahomes played a role in the Chiefs trading Alex Smith. "He's way ahead of schedule," a Chiefs coach told MMQB's Albert Breer. "Hearing the play, calling it, motions, shifts, coverage recognition, all of that is much easier. Throwing the football has always been the fun part for him." Mahomes will get a full offseason as Kansas City's starter after spending his first year learning behind Smith. A college producer with dual-threat upside, Mahomes has the makings for a 2018 breakout.
9 months ago: Patrick Mahomes Is The New Starter In Kansas City
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is fully expected to enter 2018 as the Chiefs' starter after Alex Smith was traded to the Redskins. The Chiefs and Redskins agreed to a deal that will send Smith to D.C. when the new league year opens March 14. Mahomes started the Chiefs' meaningless Week 17 game against the Broncos, but it was anything but meaningless in the grand scheme of things, as K.C. got a look at the future. Mahomes went 22-of-35 for 284 yards with a supporting cast of backups. Mahomes can make any throw on the field and should open things up even more with Tyreek Hill deep. Smith at times was averse to taking chances downfield, though he did open up more in a career 2017 season. Mahomes will certainly have his growing pains, but he has scintillating upside. Dual-threat Mahomes is a dark horse fantasy QB1 as soon as 2018.
10 months ago: Patrick Mahomes Plays Well Against Denver
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes got his first career NFL start against the Denver Broncos in Week 17. It wasn't exactly a perfect performance, but Mahomes was surrounded by a limited supporting cast. Mahomes completed 22 of 35 passes for 284 yards and zero touchdowns with one interception. The first-round rookie added seven carries for 10 yards on the ground. Mahomes performed as advertised, but will likely be the backup to Alex Smith for one more season.
10 months ago: Patrick Mahomes is Risky Option in Week 17
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will get his first NFL start against the Denver Broncos in Week 17. He was the No. 10 overall pick back in April, but heads into Denver against a defense that has allowed the fourth fewest passing yards in the NFL this season. The Chiefs have already locked up a divisional crown and will rest their key starters. Mahomes will be an interesting DFS option, but it might be difficult for him to succeed with the Chiefs benching their starters.
11 months ago: Patrick Mahomes Could Start This Season
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes could start next week, depending on how Alex Smith does against the Jets on Sunday, according to Ian Rapoport. Rapoport also added "the Chiefs' plan right now" is to have Mahomes "take a redshirt season," showing that there is not a real plan in Kansas City. Even though this answer does not say much, Rapoport believes there is a chance we see Mahomes this season despite coach Andy Reid showing nothing but support for Alex Smith in public. Already on the edge of the playoffs, Kansas City will have to change something if this slide continues.
1 year ago: Patrick Mahomes Continues to Turn Heads in First Start
Although head coach Andy Reid has already said that Alex Smith is unquestionably the starter this year and there is no quarterback controversy in Kansas City, the call for rookie Patrick Mahomes to take over will only get louder after Thursday night's 30-6 win over the Tennessee Titans. In his first start, Mahomes finished the night completing 9-of-16 passes for 183 yards and one touchdown in one half of play against the Titans' second teamers. He showed off his big arm with deep balls of 53, 46 and 28 yards all to Demarcus Robinson, who is expected to be the team's sixth and final receiver. While Smith is the steadier hand that the coaching staff clearly trusts, Mahomes skill set might end up being the better fit with the Chiefs slowly evolving offense sooner than later. Mahomes is officially the back-up heading into the season, and finishes an impressive preseason campaign going 34-for-54, with 390 yards and four touchdowns.
1 year ago: Chiefs Chairman Has More Praise for Rookie QB Patrick Mahomes
The Kansas City Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt reiterated on Tuesday that rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been having a "very good" camp, and the team has been pleased with his progress thus far. In Tuesday's practice Mahomes showed off his impressive arm strength, throwing a 50-yard strike to wide receiver Tyreek Hill, and continued to display his mobility and ability to complete passes outside of the pocket. Mahomes has had some struggles, particularly across the middle where he has been intercepted on several late passes. Overall though, the news about him has been very positive, and the team is excited about his future. He is planted firmly in the team's number two QB spot, and is very unlikely to have any fantasy utility this year unless starter Alex Smith were to miss substantial time, but it does sound like he will be contributing to this team at some point sooner rather than later, and he should be monitored in deeper dynasty leagues.
1 year ago: Patrick Mahomes Moves Up the Depth Chart to Second-String QB
After a solid preseason debut against the San Francisco 49ers on Friday night, the Kansas City Chiefs rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes began working with the second team in practice on Sunday. Mahomes finished his first NFL action completing 7-of-9 passes for 49 yards with a touchdown, and settled into the game very well, showing good mobility and touch on his passes. Although head coach Andy Reid said that this move wasn't a reflection of the performance from the former second-string QB Tyler Bray, he was not able to get any points on the board, and was sacked once and threw the team's only interception of the night. This move makes Mahomes' dynasty value a bit more appealing as it is clear that he is the future of the organization, but he is still not worth rostering in standard and redraft leagues as long as veteran QB Alex Smith is still around.
