How the free MLB optimizer works

Our free MLB optimizer builds a complete daily fantasy baseball lineup for DraftKings or FanDuel in a few seconds, with no login and no credit card. The MLB DFS optimizer ranks every pitcher and hitter on the slate with DashRank™, our score for a player's chance of a big game, and fits the best combination under the salary cap.

  1. Pick your site and slate. Choose DraftKings or FanDuel, then the slate you're entering.
  2. Generate. The optimizer fills every roster spot with the strongest lineup it can fit under the cap.
  3. Make it yours. Lock the players you want, exclude the ones you don't, or swap any spot from a list of alternatives. Generate again and the optimizer fills the rest around your picks.
  4. Choose GPP or cash. GPP mode chases upside for big tournaments. Cash mode uses projected ownership for 50/50s and double-ups, once ownership projections are posted.

MLB DraftKings optimizer vs. FanDuel MLB optimizer

DraftKings and FanDuel use different salaries, roster spots and scoring, so a lineup built for one site won't work on the other. Pick your site at the top of the page and the MLB lineup optimizer switches to that site's player pool and format:

  • DraftKings: 2 P, C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS and 3 OF, with a $50,000 salary cap.
  • FanDuel: P, C/1B, 2B, 3B, SS, 3 OF and UTIL, with a $35,000 salary cap.
  • Single-game slates on both sites, with a captain or MVP spot plus five flex spots.

Pitchers, stacks and team limits in the MLB lineup optimizer

Your pitcher is the most important pick in MLB DFS, and the one hitters can hurt the most. The MLB lineup optimizer flags bad synergy when your pitcher is facing hitters in your own lineup, because every run they score costs your pitcher points.

Hitters from the same team score together, so stacking a good offense is a common way to build tournament lineups. Each site limits how many hitters you can take from one team, and the MLB optimizer follows that limit automatically. Starting lineups are posted a few hours before first pitch, so generate again after they're out.

When the MLB optimizer has slates

DraftKings and FanDuel run MLB contests from late March through the World Series in October, and the MLB DFS optimizer has new slates almost every day of the season. In the off-season there are no slates to build from, but this page stays here, and the optimizer is ready again on the first day of the new season.

MLB DFS optimizer FAQ

Is the MLB optimizer really free?
Yes. You can generate a lineup on this page without signing up. Members also get the mass lineup generator, the late swap optimizer, saved lineups and the rest of our daily fantasy tools.

What's the difference between the MLB DraftKings optimizer and the FanDuel MLB optimizer?
DraftKings uses two pitchers and eight hitters under a $50,000 cap. FanDuel uses one pitcher, a C/1B spot and a UTIL spot under a $35,000 cap. Pick your site at the top of the page and the MLB daily fantasy optimizer builds for that format.

Is there a free MLB DFS optimizer for the whole season?
Yes. The MLB optimizer on this page is free every day there's a slate, from Opening Day in late March through the World Series.

Why don't I see a lineup?
The optimizer needs a slate with games on it. On days with no MLB games, or in the off-season, there's nothing to build from yet. Try another sport below.
