How the free NHL optimizer works
Our free NHL optimizer builds a complete daily fantasy hockey lineup for DraftKings or FanDuel in a few seconds, with no login and no credit card. The NHL DFS optimizer ranks every skater and goalie on tonight's slate with DashRank™, our score for a player's chance of a big game, and fits the best combination under the salary cap.
- Pick your site and slate. Choose DraftKings or FanDuel, then the slate you're entering.
- Generate. The optimizer fills every roster spot with the strongest lineup it can fit under the cap.
- Make it yours. Lock the players you want, exclude the ones you don't, or swap any spot from a list of alternatives. Generate again and the optimizer fills the rest around your picks.
- Choose GPP or cash. GPP mode chases upside for big tournaments. Cash mode uses projected ownership for 50/50s and double-ups, once ownership projections are posted.
NHL DraftKings optimizer vs. FanDuel NHL optimizer
DraftKings and FanDuel use different salaries, roster spots and scoring, so a lineup built for one site won't work on the other. Pick your site at the top of the page and the NHL lineup optimizer switches to that site's player pool and format:
- DraftKings: 2 C, 3 W, 2 D, G and UTIL, with a $50,000 salary cap.
- FanDuel: 2 C, 2 W, 2 D, 2 UTIL and G, with a $55,000 salary cap.
Goalies and line stacks in the NHL lineup optimizer
Your goalie is the biggest single decision in NHL DFS. Wins and saves drive goalie scoring, so a starter in a good matchup is worth paying for. Starting goalies are often confirmed only on the morning of the game, so check the NHL lineup optimizer again once they're announced.
Skaters who play on the same line or power-play unit tend to score together, which is why many players stack a line in tournaments. Lock the line you want, then generate again and the NHL optimizer fills the rest of your lineup under the cap.
When the NHL optimizer has slates
DraftKings and FanDuel run NHL contests from October through the Stanley Cup Final in June, and the NHL DFS optimizer has new slates most nights of the season. In the off-season there are no slates to build from, but this page stays here, and the optimizer is ready again on the first day of the new season.
